ReachGlobal Crisis Response is partnering with churches in Pakistan to see lives transformed by the power of the gospel in the wake of record-breaking flooding in 2022. The evangelical church in Pakistan makes up less than 1% of the population, yet the vision of our partners is for the 99%.

Monsoon rains brought intense flooding and destruction to the country during the summer of 2022. According to satellite images, nearly one-third of the country was underwater during the worst of the floods—the most severe flooding on record.

The effects were devastating. Millions were already facing food shortages, and the destruction of crops only made the situation more life-threatening. Hindus and Christians were often overlooked in the government distribution of supplies, leaving them more dependent on the response from churches and NGOs. Thousands were left homeless and many communities struggled to rebuild as the water took months to recede fully.

Our partners have identified a primarily Hindu area to focus their efforts, working to address literacy, medical and spiritual needs in a multi-year transformational cycle to create a model of Christ-centered community development. The ministry investment has already resulted in more than 30 people being baptized and a church being planted. They have a vision to build community centers that can be used as schools, medical centers and churches at various times, in addition to building wells to provide the community with safe, clean water. We are also working with our church partners to support ongoing trips to the region by counseling teams, prayer teams and church planters.

In August of 2023, the situation grew more complex as religious violence broke out in the northern part of the country. Our church partners are supporting Christians in this region, many of whom were left homeless as churches and homes burned.

Pray for...

  • Continued receptivity to the gospel message and more people to be baptized
  • Additional coaching and development opportunities between ReachGlobal staff and local church leaders
  • Continued favor with the government and local leaders in the areas where our church partners are ministering
  • More team members willing to travel or move to the Sindh province
